This book is a personal story, addressed to every thinking person in Bulgaria who cares about the fate of his fatherland. Its theme is the basic structure of Bulgarian social, political and cultural life. It is proven that its original elements are abstract egalitarianism and balancing; they require the collapse of every possible authority and order. Tradition becomes only the destruction of everything that manifests a form of tradition. Favored semi-culture and the lack of selective criteria give birth to mass populism with its drive towards anti-statehood, authoritarianism and totalitarianism. Basically unproductive, populism is also the engine of the constant longing for the existence that frees from responsibility as an imperial periphery.
The debate on the establishment of the Bulgarian Exarchate proves itself to be a dress rehearsal for the establishment of this structure. Its premiere was the Constituent Assembly of 1879. The created matrix has a formative effect to this day. Attempts at “reform” are repairs or damage to substructures; they do not affect the functioning of the system. This is where the officialized historical thinking is defined, with all its overestimation of some and “forgetting” or distortion of other ideas, events, and personalities.
