Through the use of a wide range of sources, the author considers the problems of interaction between Buddhist monastic community and temporal authority in the Kalmyk Khanate from the XVIIth to the XVIIIth centuries. A Russian researcher reflects social and political doctrine of Buddhism and attempts to implement it in particular national traditions. Much focus is also on the role of Buddhist community in developing of the Kalmyk Khanate and its domestic and foreign policy throughout the history.
