The Union of Brest is a little-known and little-studied page of our history. The decision of a number of bishops to accept the Catholic doctrine and become subordinate to the Pope while maintaining the Byzantine liturgical tradition led to the emergence of the Uniate Church, which for several centuries was the dominant religion in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
