Brest (Berestye, Brest-Litovsk, Brest-nad-Bug) is one of the oldest cities in Belarus. Over its more than a thousand-year history, it has become the crossroads of the destinies of many, many people. Some of them were born here, others were passing through, and others glorified their hometown. But the fate of each of them is a page in the history of Brest. Among the heroes of historical and biographical sketches are people of science and culture, teachers and priests, builders and creators of the future. For more than twenty years, the author of the book has been collecting material for these essays bit by bit in state and household archives, meeting with eyewitnesses of the events or their descendants.
