Boyan the Magician is a Bulgarian mythical character who has no parallel in the nation's culture. The literary texts interpreting the various meanings of his image could make up a whole anthology. Every interpretation is a reflection of its own author; there seems to be no agreement about the symbol standing behind them all. The present study produces dialog between the texts being examined, which would otherwise be inconceivable to readers, critics and writers.
