The study sheds light on the role of Otto von Bismarck's diplomacy vis-a-vis the Eastern Question from 1856 to 1878. This was the most dynamic period in the evolution of the Eastern Question, when the fate of Bulgaria was determined. The author examines the degree and the nature of Bismarck's interest in the Eastern Question, concrete acts and manifestations of his diplomacy in the course of events, and the influence which his diplomacy exerted on shaping the outcome. In other words, the book reveals how Bismarck's policy impacted Bulgaria's liberation from Ottoman Turkish rule.
