A group of activists from a civil patriotic society presents the first book of the research project “Belarusians - the People of the Righteous.”
The victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany was achieved at the cost of millions of lives of soldiers and officers at the front, the selfless labor of all home front workers and the unprecedented struggle of hundreds of thousands of partisans and underground fighters in enemy-occupied territory. To this day, the feat of those who, risking their lives, saved Soviet citizens like them, doomed by the occupiers to inevitable death, or initiated and led this process, remains undeservedly forgotten. For sheltering communists, commissars, Jews and representatives of other categories of people doomed to destruction, the punitive forces shot the entire family that gave shelter to the person. Villages were often completely destroyed, residents were burned alive, not sparing children, women and the elderly.
Of the total number of Soviet people who risked their lives in the name of saving their compatriots - citizens of the multinational Soviet Union - the Yad Vashem Memorial Museum of the Victims and Heroes of the Holocaust of European Jewry preserves the memory only of those who saved exclusively Jews, giving them the honorary title of Righteous Among the Nations . The remaining heroes remain nameless - ordinary residents of the Belarusian SSR, partisans and underground fighters, representatives of Soviet and party bodies. The silencing of their feat gives rise to a series of false interpretations of facts and outright fictions aimed at discrediting the actions of the Belarusian partisans, Soviet and party bodies, which contributes to the formation of not only factual, but also a number of systemic falsifications of the history of the Great Patriotic War.
This study is devoted to identifying undeservedly forgotten heroes who risked their lives in the name of saving Soviet citizens during the Great Patriotic War, and to uncovering falsifications related to this topic.
