The book is a re-edition of the book of Asturev Nickolay (1857-1894). It describes a post-reform Voronezh village (in the middle of the1880s) with scholarly commentaries made by the professor of the Voronezh State University Karpachev Mikhail and Oleg Lasunsky, a well-known Voronezh writer, bibliophile, literary critic.
