The book is devoted to the role of beekeeping in traditional and modern culture, reflection of the activity in language and folklore, folk knowledge, place in the personal economy, tourism and modern cultural events. The focus is on the traditions of beekeeping, log and apiary beekeeping, equipment, beliefs and rituals, customary legal norms, cultural, social and ritual aspects of the occupation, the symbolism of bees and honey in culture. The history of beekeeping, beekeeping communities, fairs and honey festivals, and the acquisition of beekeeping collections in museum collections are considered. The geographical scope covers the territories of residence of different peoples of the Urals and Volga region, Western and Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. The book is based on research by participants of the IV International Field Ethnographic Symposium. The monograph presents for the first time extensive field material, archival and written sources, ethnographic, folklore, and linguistic data on beekeeping and the place of beekeeping in folk culture, taking into account different ethnocultural traditions.
