For historical reasons, today the vast majority of documents on the history of Ukraine in the XVI-XIX centuries. stored in the archives of Russia, to which Ukrainian researchers do not have access. So today there is an urgent need to bring these documentary treasures to our experts and all who are interested in the Ukrainian past, because their study will allow a deeper understanding of this dramatic period in the history of the Ukrainian state and learn its lessons.
The book includes documents relating to the history of the Ukrainian Hetmanate of 1690-1709, in particular the building of the so-called Baturyn Archive, removed by OD Menshikov from the Hetman's residence during its destruction in 1708. The documents represent the entrance office of Hetman Ivan Mazepa - the only Hetman's archive of the end of the XVII - beginning of the XVIII century, which has survived to the present day. In addition, the originals and copies of I. Mazepa's universals, which are not known to the general public, are presented.
