Social and religious origins of totalitarianism and democracy are discussed in the book on a wide range of documental materials by means of comparative analysis of political structures of the East and the West. Evolution of democracy as a social and political system is covered in the monograph by a famous Kyrgyz politician, scientist and diplomat. Political transformation and modernization of new independent states of Central Asia are reflected. Attention is paid to influence of globalization on the situation in the region. New treats of totalitarianism are analyzed in connection with the present-day tendencies of renewal of nationalism and fascism, religious fundamentalism, international terrorism and other ideologies.
