The author analyzes a specific artistic practice, the coexistence of live human artistic performance and machine performance. It explores the processes that lead to the creation of hybrid performance interfaces, in which the dramaturgies of traditional live human performance and new forms of machine performance whose dramaturgical potential we are only now recognizing function simultaneously. The author also provides the first overview of the hitherto unnoticed practice of controversial art collectives that have been operating for decades in the spaces between the human and the digital, especially the Kadele Group. In the final chapters of the book, they also deal with some of the latest trends in digital culture, such as prompt art, NFT art, 3D stages, avatars as performers, and artificial intelligence as playwrights.
