The author Peter Ilchev (1927-1995) taught Old Bulgarian and history of the Bulgarian language at three major Bulgarian universities: Sofia University, Plovdiv University and South-West University. He also lectured on Bulgarian language and literature at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. Ilchev is one of the founders of the Department of Cyril and Methodius Studies at Sofia University. In 1985, he received Bulgaria's highest state honor in the field of culture, the Order of Cyril and Methodius, First Class. Ilchev's scientific pursuits and contributions are mainly in the field of Bulgarian paleography and historical grammar.
