The present edition is dedicated to the collective identity in its civilization forms, one of the low-studied questions of the Arts. The author underlines the characteristics of different forms of collective identity, from the group, subculture and ethnos to civilization. For the first time an attempt to apply the functional approach to the art concerning its relation to civilization was made. An experience of the art analysis within the limits of one civilization type (Russia) is suggested. Specific art’s functions connected with formation and maintenance of collective identity and ability to overcome its possible crises, are discovered in the long historical durations. It is stressed, that the ideological period in the Russian history is only one of the periods in the long history of the Russian civilization and, accordingly, of its civilization identity.
