The book is devoted to the little-researched aspect of the influence of the Western European theory of fortification of the Renaissance on defense construction in Ukraine - magical protection. Ancient theorists of architecture considered magic to be a completely effective means of defense, so the forms of fortifications proposed in architectural treatises were dictated, among other things, by the mystical views of the time. The author tries to find out whether the Ukrainian architects of the 16th and 17th centuries followed the rules of construction magic, and how it affected the planning and volume-spatial solution of castles, fortresses and city fortifications.
