The basis of the collection of the Archangelsk Museum of Fine Arts was formed in the 1960s-1980s, when thousands of monuments of ancient Russian and peasant art were found in several villages of the Archangelsk Region. Many of the masterpieces were purchased at art shows, from private collections and workshops of Moscow and Leningrad artists.
