The classic Russian monthly, universal (i.e. "thick") liberal magazine "Russkaya Mysl" is one of the most famous in the history of Russian politics and culture. Among its authors and creators are the first persons of Russian philosophical thought of the early 20th century: P.B. Struve, S.L. Frank, S.N. Bulgakov, N.A. Berdyaev, E.N. Trubetskoy, S.A. Askoldov, V.F. Ern, who directly passed on the living intellectual baton to a new generation of bright Russian thinkers, such as M.M. Rubinstein, A.Z. Steinberg, D.D. Muretov, N.V. Boldyrev. The present collection aims to present not only the unique face of Russkaya Mysl, but also to present a picture of that uniqueness which allowed this magazine, despite its rather modest circulation - especially in the face of the contemporary giants of Russian magazine business: the socialist Russkoye Bogatstvo and the liberal Vestnik Evropy - to become a genuine monument to Russian ideological history. This forces us to analyze again the mechanism of intellectual leadership in the old, pre-revolutionary Russia, when its political class and people found themselves in the hands of the direct ideological leadership of the intelligentsia, fortunately and unfortunately for our Motherland.
