The anthology “Andrei Bely: Pro et Contra” combines various viewpoints of his contemporaries upon the great symbolist writer and determines his place in Russian literature. The book is composed of a number of articles, essays and reviews of famous writers, publicists, critics and philosophers of the first half of the XXth century. Besides, the book contains reviews of less-known authors. All this adds to the full understanding of Andrei Bely’s creative activity and the writer’s image built up by diverse interpretations. A considerable part of materials included into the anthology are derived from periodicals of the period from 1900 to 1920 and have never been re-edited.
