The book is dedicated to the little-studied problem of the historical Russian language syntax – functioning and historical evolution of the ancient Russian enclitics, i. e. unstressed syllables adjacent in the prosodic respect to the previous word of the phrase. The enclitics include particles, pronominal wordforms and copulas. The book shows, that in the ancient Russian language the position of enclitics in the phrase was submitted to strict laws, the knowledge of which is significant for right understanding of the ancient Russian texts. The enclitics evolution during the XIth-XVIIth centuries, in the course of the majority of enclitics disappeared, and the enclitics turned from the independent words into the inseparable parts of the verbal wordforms.
