The book by V.Ia.Lapshin (1933-1993) "A.N.Ostrovskii" devoted to the life and creative activity of the great Russian dramatist appeared in print in 1982 as the second edition and became a bibliographic rarity. The book was written on the documentary basis and represents a rare genre of the combination of a scientific biography and a novel. The author investigates not only the issues of works by the dramatist and secrets of his destiny but also creative searches for disclosing the secrets of Russian character, "authentic, pure national roots" and at the same time the issue of evil, "wolfish and fox nature of wicked men" by Ostrovskii.
