Founded by Alexander the Great in 332 BC, Alexandria was once the largest city in the ancient world. The history of Alexandria is really rich: it was here that the Lighthouse of Alexandria was built - one of the Seven Wonders of the World, at different times the city was occupied by various foreign powers, it played the role of an important port. Today, the second largest city in Egypt, located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, has become a popular tourist destination. This book is the first complete architectural guide that traces the traces that various cultures and eras have left in Alexandria. The publication covers all architectural layers - from classical ruins and Ottoman fortifications to the Venetian Gothic hotel and the building of the New Alexandria Library. It also includes buildings on the periphery, such as the Cotton Palace Tower, a skyscraper originally conceived as a headquarters for the cotton industry and inexplicably abandoned before completion. The structure of the guide is based on five author's routes. The book will be an excellent guide in the study of the architectural wealth of Alexandria. Its authors - representatives of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Alexandria - reveal to readers unknown information about Alexandria, creating a clear picture of this multi-layered city.
