The publication is a selection of letters from ensign Dmitry Ivanovich Shishakin to his wife and children, written in 1914-1918. D. I. Shishakin was mobilized into the army in 1914 from Samara and served in the food transport of the 30th Army Corps. In letters, he told his wife about army life, the details of the work of rear units, the reaction of officers and soldiers to political events, but most of all he paid attention to the life of his family. The publication is supplied with appendices and comments explaining the features of army life and life in Samara at the time presented. It was based on letters from the private collection of A. M. Panchenko.
