Hungarian historian Gyula Sekfyu (1883-1955) began his career on the eve of World War I as an employee of one of the archives in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria-Hungary. He was a fine connoisseur of historiography and philosophy of history. In 1946-1948 Sekfyu was the first postwar Hungary ambassador to the Soviet Union.
