The monograph presents evolution of customary law, its transformation under Russian strategic management; the role of Shariat, which is a modernized Adat in the Northern Caucasus; evolution of Russian legislation in the region, norms of which were partly included into the legislative system of the peoples of Caucasus (for example, as judicial and administrative authority). Reconstruction of the history of the state and law of the peoples of the Northern Caucasus from the moment of occurrence of the Northern Caucasus in the Russian Empire up to the first third on the XXth century, when Shariat was totally banned and Soviet law was introduced is provided.
