The author attempts to analyze the right of access to public information, viewing it as a constitutional human and civic right, and to examine the implementation of this right and its impact on the current political system and its selected elements. The author understands access to information as a legal institution that has the potential to prevent pathologies and translates into increased citizen knowledge of the activities of public institutions. The mechanism of access to public information enables citizens to exercise their rights, thus contributing to increased engagement in public spaces. Increased civic engagement and a better-informed society are key elements of building a strong democracy, which in turn builds a civil society.
