The monograph reveals the interpretation of one of the most important concepts of modern historiography - European absolutism - in Russian historical science during the last third of the XIX - early XXI century. The author demonstrates its perception, features of methodological transformations, changes in the problem field and values. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between the concepts of "absolutism" and "autocracy", as well as differences in the understanding of the problems of Western European absolutism and Russian autocracy. Showing the development of the concept of absolutism in Russian historical science, the author identifies the criteria and content of this process, emphasizes its connection with the traditions of European historiography. The transformation of the concept of absolutism is analyzed in the context of socio-political conditions for the development of Russian historical science in the last third of the XIX - early XXI century. The author offers an integrative model of absolutism as an object of study in historical science, and also points to the possibilities of a comparative approach in considering the history of European political institutions of modern times.
