Vinnichenko, Volodymyr Kirillovich (1880-1951) - a prominent representative of the Ukrainian Social Democracy. For all the time of his social-democratic activity, he adhered to the Mensheviks. After the collapse of the 1905 revolution, Vynnychenko became very imbued with moods of decline, expressing them in his novels. In 1917 - 1919 Vynnychenko was one of the ministers of the Ukrainian Rada. After the victory of Soviet power in Ukraine, he emigrated to Austria. In 1920, with the permission of the Soviet government, he returned to the Ukraine, became a member of the RCP and was appointed as a deputy chairman of the Council of People's Commissars. But soon he emigrated again. In 1920 - 1922 Vynnychenko published a magazine in Vienna, the direction of which more and more approached the communist. Then he moved to Czecho-Slovakia. In September 1925, he again applied to the Soviet embassy with a petition to allow him and his associates to return to Ukraine. A group of Ukrainian SRs, alarmed by this step of Vynnychenko, turned to SR Grigoriev with a demand for an explanation of Vynnychenko's undertaking. Grigoriev answered them with a secret letter, in which he wrote that "the issue of Vynnychenko's return to Ukraine should not be understood as recognition of the Bolshevik power in Ukraine. The fight against the Bolshevik power is more expedient from the inside than from the outside."
