The monograph presents the personality and work of Stepan Semenovich Kondurushkin (1874/75–1919), a popular writer, journalist, and public figure in the late 1900s and 1910s. The authors reconstruct the biography and literary reputation of the prose writer, determining the specifics of the embodiment of Middle Eastern everyday life in his prose of the 1900s, and depicting Russian modernity in the works of the 1910s. For the first time, a significant array of previously unknown materials from Russian document repositories and hard-to-reach periodicals is introduced into scientific circulation; examples of his fiction discovered in the personal archive of S. S. Kondurushkin are published.
