Sergey Dovlatov is a well-known writer in Russia though he was born in evacuation, enjoyed the writer’s popularity in America where he had lived since 1979, and died in emigration. His artistic idea – obviously paradoxical, but simple and generous – is justified by his own life experience: to show how strange people live, sometimes despondently laughing and sometimes being laughingly sad.
