The monograph is a successful attempt at a “total biography” of one of the brightest and at the same time little-known representatives of the spiritual elite of the Uniate Church of the first half of the 17th century. - Vladimir and Berestey bishop Joseph (Mokosia-BAKOVETSKE). Using a wide range of sources, the author traces the genealogy of the BAKOVETSKE clan and the multifaceted activities of Vladyka Joseph: clergy in the Russian Chancellery of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, rector in the Zidichinsky archimandry and administration of the Vladimir-Brest diocese. The figure of the bishop is presented in a wider context of complex transformational processes characteristic of the cultural and religious life of Volhynia of this period.
