The book is dedicated to the life and work of famous Ukrainian freethinker and political prisoner, philosopher, writer and religious scholar Ievhen Sverstiuk. Its author Andrii Kryshtalskyi from Volyn', has been friends with Ievhen Sverstiuk for decades, so he loves to share not only his memories of the outstanding Ukrainian, but also his thoughts on various aspects of his work.
The memoirs highlight the relationship between Ukrainian writers of the 1960s and the authorities, as well as the tumultuous events of Ukraine's national revival, in which Ievhen Sverstyuk took part. In particular, it is about his ascetic activities, relations with the clergy and politicians, in particular, such as Viktor Iushchenko.
A separate section is dedicated to the analysis of Ievhen Sverstiuk's creative work, as well as his friends: Vasyl Stus and Ivan Svitlychnyi.
