The book examines art history from an unusual perspective: it briefly presents the new narrative of art history that was gradually created by Czech art historians after 1989, but the text focuses primarily on the individual means of constructing the new art historical canon. Although this term has long been one of the most frequent in disciplinary debates, it represents a key means of communication with the public. The book explores three relevant areas in total. Firstly, the permanent exhibitions opened by Czech, Moravian and Silesian art museums during the 1990s, then the concepts that the public had to understand the newly translated art history narrative, and finally the question of how post-war Czech art was treated in the primary school curriculum, especially in history and art education.
