The twenty days spent together with Vasyl Stus in 1972 in the cell of the Kyiv KGB gave the specialist psychiatrist Semen Hluzman the opportunity to give him an independent "diagnosis": Vasyl Stus is a person without skin who acutely felt falsehood, lies and other people's pain. With such an eloquent and apt metaphor, Semyon Hluzman captures one of the key relative constants of Stus' individual originality: it is about the vulnerability of a person who feels acutely. This essay is an attempt to understand the spectrum of the mental life of the expansive figure of Vasyl Stus, its stable internal constitution with tendencies, potentials and self-expression, and therefore to read the forms of the writer's relations with the world.
