This is one of the wittiest and most riveting books by the great Bulgarian humor writer and cartoonist Raiko Alexiev (1893-1944). It was first published in installments in the "Shturets" ("Cricket") newspaper, and in 1937 it came out as a book. In "A Humorous History...", Alexiev presents Bulgaria's past in the usual chronological order but uses satire to expose a number of flaws of the national character and the political establishment. The talented humorist discusses an enormous variety of topics, his incisive mind cutting straight to the heart of the matter. It is also noteworthy that, as a cartoonist, Alexiev illustrated his own books.
