The monograph is built on a wide range of primary sources and literature in several languages. It is dedicated to the development and consequences of internal armed confrontation. As an object of study, states are selected that are differentiated by the level of general social development and legal culture and place in the international community. Recreating a multilateral picture of events, the author combines historical and legal methods of analysis. He reveals the interaction of illegal and legal, anti-democratic and democratic aspirations during the civil wars, considers the contribution of individuals, including little known to the domestic reader. Particular attention is paid to the return of the surviving internecine struggle of the society to the civil world, including the attitude of the winners to the defeated.
