One hundred and thirty years of the history of higher legal education in Bulgaria is an occasion to take stock of the road traveled. And if we have to go back, to that distant November 2, 1892, when the first lectures on law were held before twenty-two students, whose number only within the same academic year increased to ninety-four, or approximately half of the students studying at Sofia University, it should be noted that legal education today continues to attract the attention of young people, to be a preferred specialty in arranging their desires when applying to universities. While in the first years after the Liberation this was dictated by the existing objective need for judges and lawyers in the Principality of Bulgaria and subsequently in the annexed Eastern Rumelia, now, in the conditions of higher education carried out in accordance with the common human values and national traditions, respecting the principle of academic autonomy, the preferences of young people to acquire legal knowledge, skills and competences are the result of their free choice.
