In 1987 he was named one of the 100 best photographers in the world. Took part in the creation of the book One Day in the Life of the Soviet Union (Collins Publishing, USA). In 1990, Yuri Ivanov's photograph "The Fly" was recognized as the best photograph in the world over the past 10 years (1980-1990).
Personal exhibitions of the photographer were held in many countries of Europe, Asia and America. The only photojournalist in Belarus is a laureate of the prize of the international photo competition “World Press Photo” in The Hague, the prize of the Union of Journalists of Belarus (now - the Belarusian Union of Journalists), the prize “Golden Litera” (2007). Awarded with the Certificate of Honor of the Supreme Council of the BSSR "For many years of fruitful work in the field of foreign policy propaganda" (1990), the badge of the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus "Excellent worker of the press" (2011), the badge of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus "For the contribution to the development of the culture of Belarus" (year 2014).
Yuri Sergeevich Ivanov is the author of numerous albums and exhibition projects in Belarus and abroad. Among them - the albums "Fortress-Hero", "Gomel", "Lepel", photo exhibitions "Creators", "Unknown photographs of Vladimir Mulyavin", "It was recently, it was long ago ..." and others. The heroes of the author's “reports” at different times were Pyotr Masherov, Vladimir Mulyavin, Igor Luchenok, Evgeny Yevtushenko, Andrei Voznesensky, Bella Akhmadulina and many other famous personalities and ordinary people of different nationalities and professions. The author's photographs are used to illustrate school textbooks, special editions of international publications, and encyclopedias.
