The book is dedicated to the operation “Mars” where the Soviet Union incurred more than 335 thousand human losses, and which presents one of the little-known fragments of World War II concealed by Stalin censorship. Basing on the materials of German and Russian archives, the author reconstructs in detail the historical context of the catastrophe from the prospect of the supreme Commanders-in-Chief, as well as ordinary soldiers.
