The collection Yugoslavia, Postsocialism and Religion is dedicated to social science topics that represent the central area of research of Professor Emeritus Dr. Sergej Flere.
First among them is Yugoslavia, with a special emphasis on the process of its disintegration, which significantly marked both the life and academic work of Dr. Flere. Topics in the field of religion and social developments in postsocialist societies also occupy an important place. These topics are discussed from the perspective of various scientific disciplines, with experts from the fields of sociology, history, psychology, pedagogy, philosophy and anthropology contributing to the collection.
In the last article, special attention is paid to the history of sociological research and teaching in Maribor, with an emphasis on the development of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts. This history is also connected in many ways with the disintegration of the SFRY. Among other things, Dr. Sergej Flere joined the department shortly after Slovenia gained independence. As an established Yugoslav sociologist, he brought broad sociological knowledge, a distinct cosmopolitan spirit, and exceptional research enthusiasm and curiosity to the department.
