On the evening of 19th June 2013, more than six dozen police officers raided the (Roma) Budulovska settlement in Moldava nad Bodvou. When they left after half an hour, they left behind destroyed dwellings, broken teeth and baton bruises on the bodies of more than thirty inhabitants, including women and children. The policemen found no wanted person or stolen goods. The raid was not unique in its brutality or outcome, but in what followed. In fact, the residents decided to fight back. Their quest for justice lasted eight years and involved top state officials, the European Court of Human Rights and elite lawyers. Popular columnist and translator Samo Marec and Veronika Prusova, who has been covering the justice system for years as a reporter, did not limit their investigation to reconstructing the events in Moldava and the trials. They also went deep into the past to understand and explain where the Roma actually came from and why the majority's relationship to them is so contradictory - with understanding for both sides.
