The monograph is devoted to the problems of the uprising of the indigenous population of Central Asia and Kazakhstan in 1916. against royal power. The main features of the motivation of the rebels are considered and the events of the rebellious time in Turkestan are described through the prism of the activities of the tsarist administration in the region. Particular attention is focused on the abuses of power by both Russian officials and representatives of local government, which led to dramatic results. The study characterizes the role of the Muslim clergy in the uprising, as well as the position of the leaders of the elite of the indigenous inhabitants of the Turkestan region in relation to it. The importance of intercivilizational cooperation between the local and Russian-speaking population is noted. Perhaps, the position of the Russian Orthodox Church in Central Asia before and during the tragedy of 1916, as well as the behavior of the tsarist Okhrana during this period, was studied for the first time.
