Aleksandr Kudriavtsev is a famous specialist on Caucasian culture and history. In this monograph he analyzes peculiarities of a North Caucasian town by the example of ancient Derbent - one of the largest cities in the Middle East. As a result of more than 25-year over archeological research the book shows that Derbent appeared already in the early Bronze Age (about 5000 years ago) and developed from little settlement to the greatest city of the North-Eastern and East Caucasus.
