The book by A.V.Shishov, a famous military historian and writer, is dedicated to the war conflicts of the XXth century, from English – Boer war of 1899-1902 to the Chechen conflict in 1991-2006. The author tells about all the significant intergovernmental conflicts (the so called local wars) of the past century, about the civil wars, national liberation movements, revolts, coups and religious-political collisions in different countries of the world, in colonial and semi-colonial possessions. Besides, the book includes short essays about the course of events during the First and Second World Wars and their consequences, what makes it possible to understand the origin and mechanism of military and political events, taken place during 1919-1939 and after 1945.
