The monograph examines the regional aspects of Peter's reforms on the example of two northern Russian cities - Vologda and Ustyug. The work is performed in the genre of essays on local history, touching upon the issues of the Northern War, the creation of a regular army and navy, zemstvo self-government, church transformations and demographic processes.
