The study looks into the lifework of Bulgarian freedom-fighter Vasil Levski (1837-1873), who is revered as the Apostle of Liberty. It describes Levski's tours of Bulgaria, during which he established a network of revolutionary committees to struggle against Ottoman Turkish rule; presents his ideology, character and relationship with his mother; discusses the betrayal which led to his arrest and execution; and examines his contacts with 14 of his lesser-known contemporaries.
