In the history of anti-Bolshevik resistance during the years of the Civil War in Russia 1917-1922. The Upper Don (Vyoshenskoye) uprising occupies a special place. It began as a response to the fierce mass terror of the Bolsheviks, who pursued the goal of the physical destruction of the Cossacks, it covered wide sections of the Cossack and nonresident population of the Upper Don districts, played an important role in the armed struggle in the South of Russia in the spring and summer of 1919 and became the only popular uprising against the terrorist regime, ended with the victory of the rebels.
