Marshal Mikhail Tukhachevsky (1893 – 1937) was one of the best-known soviet military leaders, whose name became a symbol of mass repressions against Red army’s command in the prewar years. There are a number of articles, written about the marshal, but they do not give an unambiguous answer to the question, concerning what kind of person he was, whether he was a brilliant strategist or a mediocre man, a patriot or an unscrupulous autocrat. The mystery of the so-called “Tukhachevsky’s fascist-military plot”, which was the reason for the marshal’s arrest and execution, has not been solved either. The present book by Boris Sokolov, a well-known historian, the author of more than 40 books on the Russian history and culture of the XXth century, is dedicated to the remarkable personality of Tukhachevsky and his biography, full of dramatic peripetias.
