You can read about the fact that the appearance and history of Brno were shaped by Germans, Czechs and Jews together for centuries in almost every book about the city. Almost everyone knows that Jewish entrepreneurs were at the height of Moravian Manchester's glory, the whole world knows the famous Villa Tugendhat and many at least have an idea of how tragically centuries of coexistence ended. However, the entire history of the flourishing Jewish community in Brno is not very well known. The book Thirteen Dreams of Freedom tries to at least partially make up for this debt. Through thirteen destinies, tied to the months of the Jewish calendar, it is possible to gain insight into the lives of the figures who shaped the history of Jewish Brno from the mid-18th century to the mid-20th century.
