The monograph comprehensively explores the problem of theoretical and legal foundations of the investigative judge in criminal proceedings and developed a concept for the implementation of his competence. The structure and content of the elements of the competence of the investigating judge are considered, namely - the normatively established goals of his activity, the subject of jurisdiction, authority, responsibility for non-compliance with his decisions. The expediency of introducing juvenile and penitentiary investigative judges in Ukraine is substantiated. International standards that define the requirements for the organization and implementation of the judicial control function during pre-trial proceedings are identified and characterized. The tendencies of development of the normative model of the institute of the investigating judge in Ukraine are singled out; The directions of activity of the investigating judge are described - when applying measures to ensure criminal proceedings, conducting investigative (search) actions, in procedures aimed at collecting, ensuring the admissibility and storage of evidence, as well as when considering complaints against decisions, actions and inaction of the investigator, investigator and prosecutor . Recommendations on the application of the current legislation of Ukraine regulating the activity of the investigating judge are given, as well as proposals aimed at its improvement are formulated.
