The book is about two major Bulgarian cultural figures and their friendship and collaboration for the literary almanac "Zlatorog". The author draws psychographic portraits of young critic Petar Dinekov and literary guru Vladimir Vassilev against the backdrop of the historical events preceding and immediately following the communist takeover of 1944. The study is based on ample documentary material, including Dinekov's diary and the diary of another critic, Boris Delchev, as well as unknown archival documents, letters, memoirs, portrait paintings and about 50 photographs, most of them unpublished previously.
